Ashram Retreats

The aim of every human being is Self-knowledge or
Enlightenment. We might have evolved through many species
but when we attain a human birth we are given the chance
to get back to the gate of joy.

Sacred Mountain Ashram and Desert Ashram were founded by Swami Amar Jyoti, our Gurudeva, in the mid-1970s. The natural beauty, peace and uplifting vibrations of the Guru offer a sanctuary for meditation and reflection. The Ashrams are non-denominational, respecting all Prophets and faiths, encouraging each of us to follow our own unique pathway to Enlightenment.

A small number of monastic disciples—monks and nuns—reside at each ashram. A simple, balanced blending of the inner life with outer service helps us maintain a spiritual focus.

You are invited to join us for a quiet personal retreat. Each ashram has limited retreat accommodations with space for relaxation, contemplation, meditation and prayer. Guests are welcome to participate in ashram life, joining the residents in their aspiration to make each moment an offering to the Divine.

Programs at the Ashram

Satsang of Swami Amar Jyoti: Every Sunday and Thursday evening we gather together to imbibe the highest Truth and guidance of the Satguru. The evening includes Gurudeva’s spiritual teachings, chanting and meditation. A complete library of these priceless wisdom teachings on CD is available to guests.

Aarati: Every morning and evening worship is offered with chanting of Vedic mantras, puja and meditation.

Women’s Hatha Yoga: Classes are held once or twice weekly.

Study: Our excellent libraries contain books on many spiritual traditions and related subjects.

Seva: Guests are welcome to offer service (the practice of Karma Yoga). A wide variety of tasks are available.

Living according to Dharma, justice, righteousness,
will give balance to your mind, and once the mind is balanced,
tensions and desires reduce. You will then act according to what
is needed, not according to selfish interest. This creates not
only personal harmony, but also harmony among the various
relationships in society, nation and world.

Galaxies are within you,
just as those you see outside.
